Beginner

Youth / Gymnastics -
2025

Our Beginner Gymnastics class is the perfect starting point for young athletes ready to explore the exciting world of gymnastics! This class focuses on body awareness, strength, flexibility, and basic gymnastics skills on all four events: vault, bars, beam, and floor — all taught in a fun, safe, and encouraging environment.

Here’s what we’ll be working on:

VAULT SKILLS

  • Running with fast, strong arms
  • Practicing tight, bouncy jumps (rebounding through toes!)
  • Learning arm circle steps over foam blocks
  • Building confidence in dynamic movement and take-off positions

BAR SKILLS

  • Holding a strong front support with straight arms and hollow body
  • Practicing hollow casts (with assistance if needed)
  • Learning pike and hollow glides with toes forward and arms by ears
  • Pull-ups to chin and beginning pullovers from a higher mat (with light coach support)
  • Intro to squat-on jumps using a floor bar

BEAM SKILLS (all independent – no spotter)

  • Forward walks on high toe with airplane arms
  • High kicks with straight legs on medium beam
  • Straight jumps with arms by ears, finishing tight and strong
  • Jumping off the end with balance, control, and a sparkle finish

FLOOR SKILLS

  • Straight jumps with a strong stick and finish
  • Forward rolls down an incline and on the floor (focusing on knees together and no hands to stand)
  • Backward rolls down an incline
  • Spider handstand holds facing a wall or block
  • Bridge holds with head off the ground (no spot!)
  • Beginner cartwheels with proper hand placement and form

Each class combines movement & music to keep kids motivated while helping them develop the fundamentals of gymnastics. Whether your child is brand new or building on basic skills, this class provides a strong, supportive foundation to help them shine!

PLEASE NOTE: Parents and siblings are not allowed in the gymnastics area during instruction time.  The last day of each session will be a time for parents to come in and see the awesome skills their athlete has learned!

Your child's skill level will be assessed during their first class period. The lead instructor will determine if the child is equipped to complete the class. If the instructor deems their skill level too low or high for this program, Community Services will offer an account credit after the first class. At that time, you can enroll your athlete into a different level based on the instructor's recommendation if there are spots available.
