Level 1

Youth / Gymnastics -
2025

Our Level 1 Gymnastics class is perfect for gymnasts who are ready to take the next step beyond the basics. This class focuses on strength, body control, and proper technique while continuing to develop foundational gymnastics skills across all four events: vault, bars, beam, and floor. Athletes will learn new shapes, stronger positions, and more complex movements in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Here’s what your gymnast will be working on:

VAULT SKILLS

  • Running with arm circle + hurdle onto a line
  • Practicing rebounds on spotting blocks (for power + control)
  • Board drills with arm circle jumps using a springboard
  • Backward rebounds onto a spotting block for body awareness and landing control

BARS SKILLS

  • 2 pike glides in a row (building rhythm and timing)
  • Pike glide with a re-grasp grip
  • Pull-up and pullover from a block (with light spot)
  • Intro to back-hip circles with tight, hollow form
  • 2 tight hollow casts in a row (hips off the bar!)
  • Jump to squat-on using a floor bar on panel mats

BEAM SKILLS (All done independently – no spotter)

  • Straight jump with stick finish on medium beam
  • Pivot turns with arms in crown
  • Arabesque hold to 30° for 3 seconds
  • Learning dance positions: coupé, passé, and horizontal leg hold
  • Beginner cartwheel on the laser beam (intro to acro on beam!)

FLOOR SKILLS

  • Tuck jump stick with sparkle finish
  • Learning jump shapes: wolf, pike, split, and straddle (trying their best!)
  • Bridge with straight legs and hands facing forward
  • Intro to handstand shapes: kick to lever, “T” position, lunge (kicking up with correct leg)
  • Cartwheels with proper hand placement and clean form
  • Coupé, passé, and horizontal leg hold in full turn dance shapes

This class keeps things fun and upbeat while introducing more challenging skills and refining technique. Whether they’re mastering a strong cartwheel or trying a back-hip circle for the first time, Level 1 gymnasts are growing in strength, skill, and confidence every class!

PLEASE NOTE: Parents and siblings are not allowed in the gymnastics area during instruction time.  The last day of each session will be a time for parents to come in and see the awesome skills their athlete has learned!

Your child's skill level will be assessed during their first class period. The lead instructor will determine if the child is equipped to complete the class. If the instructor deems their skill level too low or high for this program, Community Services will offer an account credit after the first class. At that time, you can enroll your athlete into a different level based on the instructor's recommendation if there are spots available.
