Level 2

Youth / Gymnastics -
2025

Our Level 2 Gymnastics class is designed for athletes who have mastered Level 1 fundamentals and are ready to advance their strength, technique, and coordination. This class continues to build on foundational skills with a focus on form, control, and consistency across vault, bars, beam, and floor. Gymnasts will begin connecting skills, developing power, and refining positions to prepare for higher-level gymnastics.

Here’s what your gymnast will be working on:

VAULT SKILLS

  • Running hurdle with arm circle to springboard
  • Jump to resi mat with tight, extended body position
  • Handstand flat-back on 8” mat (tight body, no pike)
  • Arm circle coordination and rebounding with power

BARS SKILLS

  • Strong pull-ups and pullovers from standing position
  • Tap swings with re-grasp and body tension
  • Hollow horizontal casts (no arch, tight legs)
  • Back-hip circle in hollow position with light spot
  • Cast to squat-on using floor bar on blocks
  • Glide swings connected in a row (maintaining tight form)

BEAM SKILLS (Spotting only when necessary)

  • Tuck and split jumps on medium beam with stick finish
  • Pivot turns with posture and control
  • Cartwheels on laser and low beam (spot as needed)
  • Handstand on laser beam (T to hands, lunge finish)
  • Arabesque to 45° with 3-second hold
  • Dance shapes: coupé, passé, and horizontal leg hold with balance
  • Backward jump off beam (no hands, controlled landing + sparkle)

FLOOR SKILLS

  • Tuck, wolf, straddle, and split jumps (improving height and shape)
  • Cartwheel on a line with clean form and control
  • Handstand (kick with straight leg, hold for 1–2 seconds)
  • Bridge kick-over off panel mat (tight legs)
  • Back walkover with light spot (good form and posture)
  • 180° heel snap turn in passé
  • Split leap to 60°+ with reach and lift

This class encourages gymnasts to refine their form, connect skills, and build confidence as they progress through more advanced elements. Level 2 athletes will be challenged to hold tighter shapes, land with greater control, and continue building the strength and technique needed for future levels.

PLEASE NOTE: Parents and siblings are not allowed in the gymnastics area during instruction time.  The last day of each session will be a time for parents to come in and see the awesome skills their athlete has learned!

Your child's skill level will be assessed during their first class period. The lead instructor will determine if the child is equipped to complete the class. If the instructor deems their skill level too low or high for this program, Community Services will offer an account credit after the first class. At that time, you can enroll your athlete into a different level based on the instructor's recommendation if there are spots available.
