Firearm Safety
Youth / Enrichment -
2025
This firearm safety course REQUIRES the successful completion of online hunter safety course, which can be found HERE.
Once completed, participants will attend an in-person classroom review/test and firearms fundamental session.
The first day of this class will be held Friday, October 24th at the Community Services building. Participants will be tested on the course material they learned during the online class, as well as participate in safe handling of different types of firearms.
The field day experience consists of seven required scenario-based training opportunities. These scenarios allow students to learn and demonstrate commonly accepted principles of safety in hunting and the handling of firearms (including shooting a .22 caliber rifle on a range.) Field day is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th at the Eastern Morrison County Sportsman's Club, weather permitting. Listed time is 8:30am-12:00pm, but it may end earlier. Lunch will be provided for all participants and volunteers through generous donations from the community.
Parent/guardian volunteers are needed and appreciated on Field Day. If you are able and willing to assist with Field Day, please answer 'Yes' during the enrollment process.
After successful completion of the DNR Hunter Safety Course you will be required to complete safety certificate information online. After successful completion of the field day, each student will receive their Firearms Safety Certification directly from the DNR.
A DNR REGISTRATION FORM MUST BE FILLED OUT OCTOBER 24TH. PARTICIPANTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPLETE THE CLASS WITHOUT THIS COMPLETED FORM.
