What is Weightlifting? The sport of weightlifting consists of snatch and the clean & jerk. The athlete will get three attempts at each lift and the heaviest successful attempt in each lift will be added together for a total. The total is how you are measured against other lifters. We lift using kilos and not pounds. 1kg = 2.2 pounds. The LFWL CLUB started so the students/athletes would have a goal to strive for as they trained. Weightlifting is a tremendous sport in itself and is extremely beneficial to athletic performance and the health of the body. Some of the physical benefits are improved confidence, changes in body composition, the importance of taking care of the body, setting and challenging personal records, and managing stress and pressure. It is suggested that athletes not take Strength & Fitness at the High School at the same time as being on the lifting team, due to overtraining, possible injury, and planning the training plans for these kids is problematic. The Olympic team is a way to build athleticism through proper lifting techniques, plyometrics, sprinting, and competition. You will need to compete in meets to be on the team. The goal is to compete in a minimum of two or more additional meets. This is a great way to train for sports, as it fills many of the boxes that will help with sports. Additional fees will be incurred for competitions, which are the athlete's responsibility. All schedule changes and information regarding competitions will be communicated through coaches. ALL lifters will lift at the Middle School Weightroom #129. See registration confirmation for schedule - it is varied. PLEASE NOTE: There will be a parent meeting held in the LF Middle School Commons Area October 22nd, 7 p.m.
